Richard Fast is an author, certified life coach, martial artist and inventor. He is the creator of the widely popular board game MindTrap, along with more than 30 other games, puzzles and toys that have sold millions of copies worldwide.

For more than twenty years, Richard has been researching the answer to the riddle – what makes us do the things we do? How are habits formed? Is it possible to develop new ones and if so … how?

 He, like the rest of us, had always been told that if you want to change your life just change your thoughts.  But how can we change our thoughts and programs that we’re not even aware of?

Contrary to many self-help approaches, healing and lasting change cannot be achieved simply by declaring a new lifestyle or by reciting affirmations and positive thoughts. Each of us is unique, which can only mean that the solution to our problem is also going to be unique.

A number of years ago, Richard quit a 60-cigarette-a-day addiction. For many years he thought he had quit his habit through willpower. After deeper reflection, analysis and research, he realized that willpower had nothing to do with his ability to break his crippling addiction. In fact, he discovered that he had actually used a systematic approach to change his deepest thoughts and beliefs, and that this "change-in-thought" mirrored much of what modern neuroscience claims to be the twenty-eight day cycle of making or breaking a habit.

Through his research, Richard realized that we can change our fundamental thoughts into desirable new habits by following the same cognitive procedures that we used to create our existing behaviour.
